MediReport — pathology reports translated for patients
A two-stage prompt system that lets a pathologist draft a patient-facing report in two minutes — without sacrificing the clinician's final sign-off on every single word. Built for a consultant pathologist in Australia.
The problem
A patient receives a pathology report written in dense medical language and has to wait days for a doctor's appointment to find out what it means. In the meantime they Google, they panic, or they misread. The pathologist who understands the report has neither the time nor the channel to explain it to every patient.
Two-stage prompt system, clinician-in-the-loop
- Stage 1 — Topic outline. The AI reads the report and produces a prioritized list of topics. The pathologist edits the outline before any explanation is written.
- Stage 2 — Patient explanation. The AI writes coherent prose covering each approved topic in order — real prose the patient can read on their phone, in their language (English, Hindi, Persian, Arabic, and more).
- A dozen drafting rules baked in — cancer news leads, never buries; non-cancer reports lead with relief; plain language first; no assumed emotions; no filler.
- Stays inside the report — no treatment advice, no prognosis. Outside the pathologist's domain is outside the AI's domain.
Outcomes
- A 30-minute writing task per report collapses to a 2-minute review of an AI draft
- Patients receive their results the same day, with the pathologist's explicit sign-off behind every word
- A single pathologist can serve a meaningfully larger patient population without compromising on human review
